They are a good solution and very economical, as long as they have rails to support the wheels and independent arms to hold the frames of the bicycles. In the mid-high range models there are application tables to check the compatibility with the car models.
Some models, thanks to their adjustment possibilities, are quite universal and can be used for many cars, vans, SUVs, etc... Normally they have a capacity to transport a maximum of 3 bicycles.

They have been around for many years and premium manufacturers have their models optimized and very well finished. Like the gate bike racks, only those with rails to support the wheels and arms to hold the bicycles by the frames are recommended. Almost all of them carry the license plate and built-in license plate. Aerodynamically they are very efficient, they have the lowest loading plane (which facilitates loading and unloading) and the mid-range and high-end models are very safe. In addition, they normally carry anti-theft systems. They can reach up to 4 adult bicycles.
SPARE WHEEL
It can only be used on any terrain that has the spare wheel on the tailgate. Like everyone else, only those with rails and arms are recommended. Although there are models of up to 3 bicycles, they are not entirely recommended, since the gates have to do an extra job for the spare wheel and the bicycles.
